Meet Recap

The Logansport High School boy’s cross country team opened their season with the twelve team Logan Invite on Saturday. Logansport placed 3rd overall with 90 points behind Western (77), and Kokomo, who won the meet with 56 points. Leading the way for the Berries was senior captain Jake Hoover who finished 7th. Freshman Christian Dawson made his Berry debut and was the second Berry to finish placing 9th. Kenny Echols placed 23rd, Ryan Lythgoe (28) and Zach Russell (29) rounded out the top five for Logansport. Also finishing for the Berries varsity runners were Drake Gellinger (33) and Kyle Army (39th). “I was happy with our effort as a whole and think we can compete with these teams for a sectional title come October,” said coach Chuck LaDow. “Jake has had a pretty good sinus infection and still ran in the top seven, which tells me how committed he is to our team’s success. He has been the verbal leader of our team and lets his work ethic set the example for our team.” “I was pleasantly surprised with Christian’s top ten performance. That was his first race and he really showed his competitive nature. He is going to be something special.” We had a minute gap between my number three runner and my number ten which will make for great competition within our team for those varsity spots. Logansport won the JV race with 18 points. Austin Young finished first overall in 20:23. Ethan Hostetler finished 2nd, Adam Lowry (3rd), Trey Shively (4th), and Alex Aho 8th to round out the JV scoring. Brandon Hauser (13th) and Bryce Wolfe (17th) rounded out the JV team. The Berries will host the county meet next Saturday.
