Meet Recap

The Logansport Harriers capped off their 2016 season with an 18th place finish at the New Prairie Semi-State on Saturday. Caston Sophomore Mitchell Rans represented the 574 area code by winning the semi-state in a time of 15:50. The Berries were led by their freshman standout Christian Dawson, who finished 72nd in a time of 17:26. “Christian ran a very smart, mature race and finished just seconds off his season PR. I am just so proud that he executed his race plan and had such a great race,” said Coach Chuck LaDow. Senior Jake Hoover finished his career by placing 81st in a time of 17:35. “Hoov called this redemption Saturday after his off race at the regional and missing the NCC due to an injury, and he went out and ran his best time ever on this course. I am so happy he got to go out with a solid race.” Ryan Lythgoe finished 109th in time of 18:25. “We wanted Ryan to beat the Jeff 3 runner and he did. He had a solid race.” Rounding out the scoring for the Berries by placing fourth and fifth for the Berries were Zach Russell in 18:58 (124), and senior Kenny Echols in 18:59 (125). Also competing for the Berries were Adam Lowry 18:59 (126), and Kyle Army 19:05 (130) Our five and six guys nipped the fifth spot runners from Plymouth and Jeff to just push the Berrries ahead of them both in the overall standings. “We came here last year and finished last, that didn’t sit well with the guys, so the put Jeff and Plymouth in their sites and caught them both in the final 200. “At the beginning of the season we set three goals, finish in the top three of the NCC, win the sectional, and qualify for New Prairie. We had to run without Hoov at the conference and ended up 6th, with Jeff being the third place team, so today was kind of a redemption for that.” “We return a solid nucleus for next year and hopefully the success today helps to motivate them to move towards at top 10 finish next season,” stated Coach LaDow. “Hoov and Kenny have been with us for four years and will go on and be successful in life, but days like this are hard when an athlete’s career comes to an end.” We have a lot of camaraderie within the 574 area code among the runners, and it was great to see the fans from Cass, Pioneer, Winamac, and Caston cheering on Mitchell Rans. He is something special for sure and answered all doubters today with a dominating performance.”
