Meet Recap

The Lady Berry cross country team placed 5th in the Jacob Graf Memorial Invitational on its home course on Saturday morning. The team was led by Megan Benn and Adria Higgins with 18th and 19th place finishes. Makaya Robinson placed 3rd for the team with a 33rd place and Liz Smith was 36th. Cassidy Kestle rounded out the scoring with a 37th place finish. Freshman Carolayn Salamanca was 49th and senior Stephanie Morales came in 50th complete the top seven runners for the Berries.

“Megan Benn and Adria Higgins ran well for their first race of the season. They probably went out a little too conservative considering Megan moved up about 6 spots in the last 2 miles and Adria moved up about a dozen places over the last 2 miles, but it was the first meet and that is to be expected. They will be more confident in their abilities the next time. I thought Makaya and Liz ran respectable times for the first meet. We were very happy with our freshman, Carolayn Salamanca. She has a lot of potential and passed a lot of girls over the last half of the race. Overall it helped us learn where we are and we can use today as a benchmark. We will see a lot of improvement over the next 3 races and the team will build their confidence as they see their times come down. We will be running shorthanded for a few more weeks, but that is ok because it provides an opportunity for some of our younger runners to step up and contribute. In the long run it will help make us a better team,” said LHS girls coach, Brian Morrill.

The Berries will host the county meet on Saturday, August 26th.
