Meet Recap

The Logansport boys’s cross country team finished 11th in the open division at the Culver Military Academy Cross Country Invitational Saturday morning. “Despite the 90 degree temperature our guys really competed hard today,” said coach Chuck LaDow. “We knew with the week of training that we had and the temps, we weren’t going to run any season best times, so we focused on competing hard and devising race strategies for the regional in three weeks on this course.” Leading the way for the Berry Harriers was senior Kyle Army, who placed 45th with a time of 18:33. “Kyle ran the best race of his season today, he was within 20 seconds of his PR and just really showed some guts, ” said Coach LaDow. Zach Russell was 53rd with an 18:48. “Zach has been very consistent this season, he has stepped up to really lead by example.” Christian Dawson was 61st with a 19:03. Dawson is nursing a knee injury and had a great race through two miles before his knee started to bother him. “Christian knows to back off as soon as the pain starts. We need him at his best in two weeks, so we aren’t taking chances.” Freshman Noe Ortiz was right behind Christian at 62nd place with the same time. “My top four are right where we need them. It’s our five spot that needs to rise up if we want a shot at defending our sectional title.” Michael McMahan finished as the Berry’s fifth finisher at 84th place in 19:43, and senior Ethan Hostetler was 85th with the same time. Rounding out the Berry varsity was Trey Shively who finished in the 93rd spot. “It was tough because we ran a combined race with the elite devision so it seemed like we were a lot further back than what we actually finished,” stated LaDow. The elite race was won by Danny Kilrea from Lyons Township, Illinois, in 15:06. “Danny is one of the top five runners in the nation and he just ran away from an incredibly talented field on a crazy hot and humid day.” Caston’s Mitchell Rans finished 4th in 16:07 and was the second place finisher out of Indiana. Logansport will compete at the NCC at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion next Saturday.
