The Cass County Boys Track & Field Meet was held at Logansport on Saturday, May 2nd and the Berries came out victorious over Lewis Cass, Pioneer, and Caston. The Berries won 6 of the 16 events and scored 92 points. Lewis Cass finished second with 60 point, Pioneer had 50, and Caston scored 41. Event winners for the Berries were RJ Clem in the Discus with a throw of 160 feet, 5 inches and the Shot Put in 44 feet, 10 inches. Clem's discus throw was 9 feet better than his previous best. Landon Morock took first in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 16.95 which was just off his personal best. Jackson Wicker took first place in the pole vault with a vault of 11 feet. The 4X 100 relay team of Landon Morock, Elliot Baldini, Jackson Wicker, and Karsen Jackson were first with a time of 45.28 and the 4X 800 meter relay team of Josh Buenaventura, Yandriel Pizarro-Cotto, Jonathan Miranda, and Eli Schurter captured first with a time of 8:56. "Our guys came out on top today because we were able to pick up a lot points with our depth. We only won 4 of the 13 individual events and Cass won 6 of those 13 events. but we made up for that by capturing 2 of the 3 relays and filling in with a lot of 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place finishes. It was a team effort all the way and a credit to our guys for understanding that even though we weren't winning the majority of the events they had to compete hard for every point . . . and they did that," said Brian Morrill, the Berries coach. "I'm really proud of the way we competed today. Sometimes the field events don't get the attention that the track events do and our field event athletes on both the boys and girls teams are really strong for us. RJ Clem has improved so much this season over last year in the shot put and especially the discus. Every week he is setting a new personal best for himself it seems. Today he added 9 feet to his personal best in the discus. The 4X 100 relay team is filled with 4 guys that are all above average sprinters and they will continue to bring their time down as we get some better weather," said Morrill. "We will get tested at the conference meet this coming Friday evening in West Lafayette. West Lafayette is a powerhouse along with Hamilton Heights, and Western and others. The Hoosier Conference has some very strong track programs and we are looking forward to the challenge of seeing how we stack up," said Morrill. The Berries boys' team improved their record to 13-1 on the season heading into their conference meet next Friday evening.
