Logansport Girls Cross Country Race at Brownsburg Invitational Saturday, September 5th the Logansport Cross County teams traveled to Brownsburg to race the Brownsburg Invitational. The Lady Berries placed 11th in a very competitive race. “This is a long trip for our team, but it is a chance to check out the Regional course and race against a very competitive field.” Says Logansport coach Kailin Bauman Leading the Lady Berries was junior Alette Woodhouse (19:26, placing 14th), racing sub 20 for the second time this season. “Alettes times continue to drop but what is truly impressive is the way she races. She was in 22nd position going through mile 1, moved in 16th by mile 2 and pulled off a 14th place by the finish line.” Sophomore Kyndra Ely is having a breakout season placing 2nd for the Berries and running a personal record of 20:51. “Kyndra has dialed in her racing style this season and it’s exciting to see. She is having fun running and it shows.” Says Bauman. Rounding out the varsity squad and continuing to improve were junior Kate Spradling (21:50 SB) sophomore Aaliyah Ramirez (23:06 SB) freshman Cadence James (23:52), Sam Richie (24:20), and junior Yari Sanchez-Olmos (26:03). The JV team also had a big day with 5 PR’s and placed 12th as a team. “Last weekend, our team was racing to win. This weekend, we were racing to try some new techniques and check out a fun course. By the time our JV squad raced, the day was warming up, but this group has trained to work hard when conditions aren’t great and their effort paid off.” Says Bauman. Leading the pack was freshman Eva Woodhouse (25:12 PR), seniors Cecilia Rico (27:15 PR), Genesis Sevilla (27:46), sophomore Amber Garfias (27:53 PR), freshman Gwen Miller (28:03), sophomore Sommer Lucero (28:13) freshman Rosi Ramirez (28:24 PR), Vianey Hernandez (29:00) and junior Charlie English (31:07 PR). “Racing against teams like Carmel, Brownsburg, and Avon can be intimidating but this is the best we’ve placed as a team at this invite, and we are excited to keep working to see what else the season has in store for us.” The Lady Berries head to Indiana Wesleyan to compete in the Wildcat/Jackson Classic Saturday, September 12th.
