The Logansport Girls Cross Country team races at Indiana Wesleyan University in Wildcat/Jackson Classic Invitational. This week the Lady Berries worked hard placing 3rd of 16 complete teams at the Wildcat/Jackson Classic Invitational. “After a hard week of training, our team showed up and raced well on a great course.” Says coach Kailin Bauman. “Despite not taking a break from the hard practices, we saw 6 seasons best and 4 personal records this weekend.” Placing 2nd overall in 19:25 (SB) was junior Alette Woodhouse, who moved up about 15 spots after the first 1k of the race. “Alette had an incredible week of workouts and her patience in the start of a big race paid off.” Says Bauman. Senior Kate Spradling, running a season’s best of 21:29 finished 24th, sophomore Kyndra Ely finished 26th in 21:35, freshman Cadence James 45th in 22:47 (PR), sophomore Aaliyah Ramirez 23:34, freshman Samantha Richie 23:51 (PR) and Eva Woodhouse 25:07 (PR) completed the varsity racers on Saturday. Racing with the same start time, junior Yari Sanchez-Olmos (25:08 SB) was followed by the trio of seniors Ava Pe (27:20 SB), Cecilia Rico (27:20) and junior Sommer Lucero (27:44 SB). Shortly behind were freshman Vianey Hernandez-Espinoza (27:54 PR) and Gwendalyn Miller (27:54). Senior Genesis Sevilla, sophomore Amber Garfias (29:23), sophomore Cooper Bricknell (32:00 SB), Freshman Avril Woodhouse (32:38), and junior Charlie English (32:40) completed the JV team. “What was truly wonderful about this weekend was watching the girls compete as a team, pushing each other to personal records and seasons bests. It was a high humidity morning, but we were gifted with a cloudy morning and slightly cooler temperatures. We got a glimpse into fall racing.” The Berries will head north to the New Prairie Invitational on Saturday.
