Despite weather delays and unfavorable course conditions, the Logansport Lady Berries place 7th at the New Prairie Invitational. "After 2 hours of lightening delays, the New Prairie course was sloppy by the time our athletes got their chance on the storied course. All week, our returning runners had been preparing new runners for the Snake Pit and Agony Hill but none of us quite prepared for the mud we would encounter." Says coach, Kailin Bauman. "We had a tough week of practice and weren't shooting for big PRs this weekend but the team still ran VERY well, despite the challenges of the course on tired legs." The Logansport Berries varsity team was led by junior Alette Woodhouse (20:38, finishing 5th overall), Kate Spradling (senior, 23:29, 42nd), Kyndra Ely (sophomore, 24:10, 46th), Aaliyah Ramirez (sophomore, 24:17, 48th), Cadence James (freshman, 24:27, 48th) Sam Richie (freshman, 26:39, 74th), Eva Woodhouse (freshman 26:40, 75th) and Yari Sanchez Olmos (junior, 27:07). The Junior varsity ran in the very last race of the day after hundreds of runners and made a muddy course increasingly slick. "I am continually impressed and proud of these athletes for their attitudes and grit despite the challenges this season has continued to present to them. The JV team spent the morning watching runners covered in mud and still went to the start line ready to run hard. They ran hard and one athlete, Freshman Gwen Miller, even ran a personal record in a time of 26:59 on Saturday. Racing with Gwen were, Karly Leyva (freshman, 27:01), Vianey Hernandez-Espinoza (freshman, 28:09), Cecilia Rico (senior 28:19), Sommer Lucero (junior, 29:09), Ava Pe (senior, 29:17), Genesis Sevilla (senior, 29:20), Amber Garfias (sophomore, 29:28), Rosalia Ramirez (freshman, 29:49), Cooper Bricknell (sophomore, 33:02), Avril Woodhouse (freshman, 33:15) and Charlie English (junior, 33:26). The Logansport Cross Country teams will head to Culver for the Culver Academies XC Invitational on Saturday, September 26th.
