Logansport wrestlers Liberty Sutton and Martha Sanchez both earned state places in the IHSGW State Girls Wrestling Tournament held at Hamilton Heights High School on Friday.
Liberty, a sophomore wrestling at 138 pounds, finished forth in the state. She won her first match by a 6 – 5 decision over Emerson Wolfbrandt of Lebanon. In her semi-finals, Liberty lost by fall against Alara Boyd of Yorktown. Boyd is a world silver medalist for USA Wrestling. In the match for third, Liberty fell short to Melody Barrows of Westfield 4 – 3.
Martha, a junior wrestled at 126, lost her initial match 5 – 3 against Haley Mattingley of Carmel. In her first consolation match, Martha won a 9 – 0 decision over Shelby Cope of Lebanon. In the placing match Martha lost a close 6 – 5 decision against Sarah Dix of Pendelton Heights.
Both girls have one a varsity match this season and they will continue to work to become a state champion next year.
