Logansport Berries Varsity took the lead late and defeated South Bend Clay 4-1 on Saturday. The game was tied at one with Logansport Berries Varsity batting in the bottom of the fifth when Abby Henderson homered on a 1-2 count, scoring two runs.
South Bend Clay got things moving in the second inning, when Henderson induced B Osebaugh to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Logansport Berries Varsity tied things up at one when Lexi Zartman tripled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.
Henderson got the win for Logansport Berries Varsity on the mound. She allowed six hits and one run over seven innings, striking out three.
Logansport Berries Varsity tallied one home run on the day. Henderson put one out in the fifth inning.
Zartman, Henderson, Aubry Jackson, Katey Hall, and Elle Deardorff each collected hits to lead Logansport Berries Varsity. Logansport Berries Varsity didn’t commit a single error in the field. Deardorff had the most chances in the field with six and also mustered up a double play at short stop to end the fifth inning.
The Logansport Berries Varsity travels to play Maconaquah on Tuesday at 6pm.
